Client Rights Statement

At St Giles Society Limited, we are dedicated to upholding the rights and dignity of our clients and families. We believe in the inherent value and worth of every individual, and are committed to providing quality and safe services that are respectful, inclusive, and free from harm.

In providing supports and services, we are guided by the following principles:

  • Promotion of informed choice and decision-making

  • Commitment to dignity of risk and supported decision-making

Client Rights

As a client and/or family of St Giles, you have the right to:

  • Be treated with respect and dignity, and access services that are responsive to your needs
  • Make informed choices about your services and supports
  • Exercise dignity of risk and make decisions about your own life
  • Have your personal information kept private and confidential

Our Responsibilities

As a leading Tasmanian disability service provider, we are responsible for:

  • Promoting and supporting client autonomy and decision-making
  • Providing services that are responsive to client needs and preferences
  • Respecting client cultural and individual differences
  • Delivering services that are free from violence, abuse, neglect, exploitation and discrimination
  • Involving children in the decisions that impact them, and collaborate with parents and others who have the right to make choices and be involved in decisions about the services their child receives
  • Supporting clients to exercise dignity of risk and make informed decisions
  • Providing information to, and communicating with clients in their preferred language and mode
  • Ensuring that client personal information is kept private and confidential, and that consent is obtained before we act on a client’s behalf
  • Report any instances where we become aware of a client’s rights being impinged upon
  • Ensuring our staff are trained in and understand their roles and responsibilities to uphold client rights and dignity, deliver inclusive services and support clients to build their skills and confidence in advocating for their rights

Advocacy and Support

We recognise the importance of advocacy and support in promoting client rights and dignity. We ensure that advocacy and support are available to clients, and that clients have the right to choose their own advocate or support person.

We welcome feedback from our clients, families, and stakeholders to help continually improve. Get organised

You may have a number of different appointments with doctors and specialists – so start a notebook of all conversations and appointments. Keep all documents together in a single folder – you will need to keep receipts, invoices, forms etc…

Review funding options

Every case is unique. StGiles can help you identify the services to meet your needs and the best funding option available for your situation.

Funding options include:

  • Medicare plans
  • Private health
  • NDIS
  • Self-funded: you can pay the full fee without any funding.

NDIS Support Coordination

If you are eligible for the NDIS, it may take several months for your funding and Plan to be approved. StGiles can assist you with NDIS plan co-ordination and management (including some or all of the funding including financial, legal and administrative requirements).

NDIS service provider

Once you have an approved NDIS Plan, it is up to you to choose a Disability Service Provider(s). StGiles offers an extensive range of services for both adults and children living with disability. Our services can be tailored to meeting individual needs, delivered individually or as a package, and can change as your needs evolve.
