This week, St.Giles welcomed a team from Woolworths Northern Tasmanian supermarkets to our Amy Road site to see firsthand some of the Assistive Technology purchased through their fundraising efforts across Tasmania.
Woolworths team, including 2023 Woolworths Community Store of the Year store manager Wes Polden, were met by St.Giles CEO Honni Pitt, manager of Assistive Technology Rod Campbell and his team before being shown the equipment which ranged from mobility devices, through to seating solutions, and augmented and assistive communication devices.
Of particular interest for the Woolworths team was the Tovertafel: Dutch for ‘magic table’, the Tovertafel is a fun, interactive game system designed to stimulate physical and social activities, create a shared experience, and enhance well-being.
The device projects specially crafted interactive games and images onto a flat surface. The Tovertafel respond to the hand and arm movements of players with the goal of providing joy and engagement while serving as a purposeful activity.
Tovertafel and its games are designed with empirical advances and state-of-the-art technology.
The team from Woolworths enjoyed trying the interactive games with Northern Allied Health Operations Manager Daniel Clarke demonstrating the equipment and explaining how the Tovertafel will be used by St.Giles Allied Health staff with our paediatric clients.
St.Giles technicians Shaun and Sushil explained the process behind the selection of the equipment and the points of difference between the various mobility and communication devices that have been purchased.
The visit was a timely opportunity for Woolworths teams to see the impact their fundraising efforts have at St.Giles as both parties will soon be gearing up for the Woolworths October Appeal, with St.Giles donation tokens available to purchase in store.
St.Giles have been Woolworths Tasmanian Charity Partner of choice since 2021, and their efforts have seen over $500,000 raised for St.Giles.
You can donate to St.Giles at any time through Woolworths registers or donation boxes in Tasmanian stores.
